Mental toughness is a personality trait that determines how we react to stress, pressure, and challenges. A high level positively influences coping with change, sleep quality, and effectiveness in achieving goals. The level of mental resilience can be measured and developed using professional diagnostic tools, such as the MTQ assessment, e.g., MTQ 48 or MTQPlus.
In today's extremely dynamic world, the ability to cope with stress has become one of the most sought-after competencies. We often wonder why some people can keep their cool and act effectively in the face of a crisis, while others feel overwhelmed. The key to understanding this difference lies in mental resilience.
According to the definition by the creators of the model, Peter Clough and Doug Strycharczyk (2012):
"Mental resilience is a personality trait that significantly determines how people respond to challenges, stress, and pressure, regardless of the circumstances."
It is not a shield that makes us stop feeling emotions. It is flexibility and inner strength that allows us to bounce back more quickly after difficult experiences and learn from our mistakes.
Mental resilience is not just a trendy business term; it is the foundation of well-being. Scientific research clearly shows that its level has a direct and measurable impact on many areas of our lives.
High mental toughness determines:
- the level of stress experienced and the feeling of fear in difficult situations
- sleep quality and the ability to regenerate the body
- effectiveness and consistency in achieving personal and business goals
- coping with change, viewing it as an opportunity rather than just a threat
- the sense of satisfaction with life and the level of life ambitions
Working on resilience is for you if you notice at least one of the following signals in yourself recently.:
you are experiencing significant changes in your personal or professional life
you care about strengthening relationships with others
you feel permanently overwhelmed by responsibilities and lack energy
your current job does not bring you satisfaction, and you feel a decrease in motivation and engagement
you want to proactively check your resilience and work on it for developmental purposes to better prepare for future challenges
In better understanding your mental resilience and precisely defining the areas that need strengthening, the MTQ assessment is extremely helpful.
With professional diagnosis and discussion with an expert, you gain solid data about your soft skills..
1. Self-awareness: greater, fact-based knowledge about yourself and your natural reactions to stress.
2. Individual report: you receive a personalized development report that shows your results against a broad population.
3. Expert support: an in-depth analysis of the report and specific developmental guidance from a certified mental resilience consultant.
If you feel that stress is starting to take control of your career or personal life, and every change causes anxiety, it's time to equip yourself with the right tools.
As a certified Mental Resilience Consultant and an ICF accredited coach, I help leaders, managers, and individual clients diagnose and systematically build mental resilience. I conduct comprehensive MTQ48 and MTQPlus assessments, which I combine with in-depth coaching sessions.
