Crisis counseling—why is it worth it?
In everyone's life, there are situations that cause us to feel stuck. These can include the death of a loved one, job loss, separation, or burnout, which affects over a quarter of working Poles. The vast majority are unaware of the long-term consequences, and the symptoms are very often alleviated with medication, which helps to reduce them but does not eliminate the causes.
One type of event that can lead to a crisis is burnout, which is an example of chronic stress and is the result of, among other things:
🔻long-term stress related to constant problems in everyday life
🔻worrying about family, work, money
🔻uncertainty, loss of control, or lack of information
What are the symptoms of chronic stress?
📌tension without the possibility of effective relief
📌increased cortisol levels and decreased serotonin levels
‼️In such a situation, the brain undergoes slow degradation and does not rebuild itself‼️
It is worth paying attention to:
🔹sleep quality
🔹migraines and headaches
🔹immunity
🔹emotional states
🔹hair condition
🔹ability to concentrate or make decisions
How can a crisis consultant help?
👉 The main goal is to support the client so that chronic stress, in this case burnout, does not turn into a crisis, i.e., helplessness.
👉In the case of an acute crisis related to a sudden event, such as death, separation, or job loss, the consultant's main role is to support the client in finding solutions that will be helpful in the short term, so that the client feels they are regaining control of the situation.
Regardless of the type of situation, the consultant provides emotional support and guidance.
In cooperation with the consultant:
✔️you will determine whether the situation you are in is chronic stress or an acute crisis
✔️you will receive initial emotional support
✔️you will determine the steps to take, tailored to your current capabilities and needs
✔️you will receive guidance on possible actions
✔️if necessary, you will receive guidance on what additional professional support is worth using
Long-term chronic stress and acute crisis can cause depression, which is easy to overlook, especially in high-functioning individuals, and its effects often lead to disruption in life.
That is why it is worth observing yourself and taking action before it is too late, because failure to do so may result in a much longer recovery time.
